Chatuchak Weekend Market — locally known as JJ Market or Jatujak — isn't just the best market in Bangkok; it's one of the largest markets in the world. Covering roughly 35 acres with more than 15,000 stalls spread across 27 themed sections, it draws over 200,000 visitors every weekend and sells a staggering range of goods: vintage clothing, handmade crafts, live plants, antiques, books, pets, ceramics, silk, art, home décor, and street food. If it exists in Thailand, it's almost certainly being sold somewhere in Chatuchak's maze of lanes.

The market is organized by category, which makes it possible to focus your time if you know what you're after. Sections 2 through 6 are the go-to for fashion and accessories; sections 7 through 10 and section 25 cover antiques, aromatherapy, silver jewelry, and woodcraft; section 26 houses the beloved art village. Food courts, cafés, and independent eateries are woven throughout, with coconut ice cream, duck noodles, mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea among the most popular refreshments. On Friday evenings from 6:00 PM to midnight, a smaller, less crowded, and cooler version of the market runs — a good option for a more relaxed visit.

Bargaining is expected throughout. Starting at roughly 50–60% of the asking price is reasonable, and politely walking away often brings vendors back with a better offer. Prices here generally run lower than at most other Bangkok markets, which is a big part of why locals and visitors alike keep coming back.

• Location: Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, Chatuchak, in the northern part of the city near Chatuchak Park.
• Getting there: BTS Mo Chit (Exit 1) is a 5-minute walk to the entrance. MRT Chatuchak Park (Exit 1) or Kamphaeng Phet (Exit 2) also work.
• Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (main market). Friday evenings, 6:00 PM – midnight (evening section).
• Best time to visit: Early Saturday or Sunday morning, 9:00–11:00 AM, to avoid the heat and peak crowds.
• Tips: Pick up a free map at the information kiosk near Entrance 3. Bring cash, stay hydrated, wear comfortable shoes — the inner sections can be disorienting, so don't hesitate to check Google Maps.
